Oklahoma City, OK -- Improving education opportunities in medicine and biomedical research will be the topic of the Mini-Medical School, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Basic Sciences Education Building (East and West Lecture Halls), 941 Stanton L. Young Blvd. During the event, high-school and undergraduate college students from around the state will have an opportunity to speak with experts and hear lectures on “Understanding the Complex Brain” from medical school professors and scientists. Students also will have a “hands-on” mini-lab with OU Medicine and Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience students.
The Mini-Medical School is sponsored by the Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience, a consortium of neuroscientists from across the state at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center that serves as a research center and information resource. The cost of admission is $35 per student. The event is co-funded by a grant from the National Institute of Health – Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence OKC and a donation from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma City.
The Mini-Medical School will include a panel of four speakers:
• Robert Blair, vice chair and professor, OU Department of Physiology
• Daniel O’Donoghue, professor, Physician Associate Program, OU Department of Family and Preventative Medicine; professor, OU Department of Cell Biology
• Celeste Wirsig-Wiechmann, associate professor, OU Department of Cell Biology
• Kersi Bharucha, associate professor of neurology, OU Department of Neurology
