Small group sessions

The workshop format emulates a very successful model developed by the Center for Clinical Research and Evidence Based Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Small group sessions, led by teams comprised of clinicians, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, pharmacists, and reference librarians, provide participants with opportunities for practice.
Small groups discussions center on:

Developing an useful and searchable clinical question: Resources from the Evidence Based Decision Making pages, University of Southern California Health Sciences, including an orientation to the PICO framework for clinical questions.
Critical appraisal of the literature can employ guiding questions, including:

Critical appraisal worksheets from the Oxford University Centre for Evidence Based Medicine (CEBM)
guidelines originally developed by the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme or CASP.
Another useful set of Users' Guides were originally published in a series in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

Critical appraisal of the literature considers the quality or level of evidence within a hierarchy or pyramid.
