![]() Scientists at the OU Health Sciences Center have devoted their lives to deciphering the mysteries of human disease that hold great potential for discovery. Hundreds of research projects are underway on the OUHSC campus at any given time. Faculty and students within each college are active in projects that have both scientific and clinical applications. Areas of research range from the general to the specific and virtually all hold great applicability to large groups of people. The Office of Research Administration (ORA) serves as a central resource to promote the research, education and service missions of the University by encouraging and fostering health-related activities and increasing the quality and quantity of research, training, and public service programs at the Health Sciences Center. The office provides information and administrative assistance to faculty and staff for developing and submitting proposals to external sponsors. The OUHSC General Clinical Research Center is a National Institutes of Health funded center which strives to provide investigators with the optimal facilities and resources to conduct clinical research, to encourage collaboration among scientists, to train health care professionals in clinical research, and to advance the quality of patient care. The OCTSI supports the discipline of clinical and translational science and the needs of its researchers. CTSA OCTSI supports research into novel concepts, methodologies, and approaches that are integrated into a comprehensive, effective, and efficient researcher-, trainee-, and participant-centered program. The Laboratory for Genomics and Bioinformatics is a full service genomics facility offering DNA Sequencing (small and large scale projects), microarray design and hybridization, oligonucleotide synthesis, and other services. The Facility will accept proteins and peptides which have been electroblotted onto PVDF membranes or those which have been purified by chromatographic techniques. The facility is also equipped to perform proteolytic digestion of proteins, microbore HPLC separations or SDS gel electrophoresis- electroblotting. Reynolds Oklahoma Center on Aging was established in 2006 to serve as the research division of the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatric Medicine. The goals of the Center are to promote basic and clinical research studies on the mechanism of brain aging and neurodegeneration and develop effective interventions; to develop collaborative efforts with the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Arkansas Medical School and to promote research into aging and age-related diseases at the University of Oklahoma and throughout the nation. The purpose of The Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) is to organize the Health Sciences Center's efforts in the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. CCAN is a university-based, center that directs research, professional and public education, clinical services, and administrative programs in the field of child maltreatment. The Center utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosis, treatment, and research of dementia. Tolbert Center faculty and students conduct research related to people with or at risk for developmental disabilities and their families. The OU Prevention Research Center, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, works in collaboration with American Indian tribes and communities in Oklahoma and throughout the United States to address their public health challenges and priorities. The goal of the Center is to provide education, consultation, and research to meet the needs of Oklahoma healthcare professionals and students who face the increasingly complex ethical issues in contemporary healthcare. The Oklahoma Center for Alcohol and Drug-Related Studies is a designated academic center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. The Center prepares researchers and clinicians to address issues related to the acute and chronic effects of alcohol and drugs, the etiology, risk factors, and consequences of alcohol/drug abuse and dependence, and effective means of intervening and preventing these disorders. The Oklahoma Center for Medical Glycobiology is located on the campus of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. The Center was established in 1999 both to serve as a research center and to act as an information resource for new developments and opportunities in the field of Glycobiology. The Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience is located on the campus of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. The Center was established in 1991 for the Oklahoma community both to serve as a research center and to provide information resources on the nervous system. The Toxicology Program serves as a catalyst for the development of new research programs designed to assess health risks posed by potential toxicants. Residents have access to faculty experience in performing and reviewing research, statisticians, grant writers and physicians in the community who perform research as part of their practice. We have a practice-based research network that is actively researching and answering questions that commonly come up in practice settings. The purpose of the University of Oklahoma Office of Technology Development (OTD) is to stimulate the creation of intellectual property and manage the resulting assets in support of the mission of the University of Oklahoma. OMRF is a private, non-profit biomedical research institution located in the heart of the Oklahoma Health Center. OMRF scientists work at the molecular level to understand and find treatments for a range of diseases, including cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, arthritis, lupus and AIDS. The Department of Pathology Histology Laboratory provides a full range of histology services for researchers on and off campus, including paraffin embedding and sectioning, cryosectioning, regular (H&E) and specialty (histochemical and immunohistochemical) staining. Professional interpretation of histologic and cytologic preparations by a pathologist can also be provided. The Flow and Image Cytometry Laboratory provides the University of Oklahoma research community with state-of-the-art cell analysis, cell sorting and confocal microscopy, and the technical expertise to best utilize this technology. The Advanced Immunohistochemistry & Morphology Core facility is a full service histology lab providing the best value and highest quality in cutting-edge histological techniques to researchers. Services available include tissue processing and embedding, microtomy (fixed and frozen), immunohistochemistry, biochemical or special staining, and laser capture microdissection. Microscopy equipment and support are also accessible for on-site users. The Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research Design and Analysis Center (BSE RDAC), in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the OUHSC College of Public Health, provides biostatistical and epidemiological expertise and collaborative support for research initiated by OUHSC investigator and community partners. Faculty, staff, and graduate research assistants in the BSE RDAC provide expertise in areas ranging from formulation of research questions, research design, study implementation and monitoring, data collection and management, data analysis, and dissemination of findings. |
