EXCESSIVE TOE OUT DURING STANCE

The therapist who observes abnormal foot positioning during stance should suspect a proximal source for the deviation. The lower extremity joint that permits the most rotation is the hip. The hip is the most common source of rotational abnormalities in the lower extremity.

Less likely causes of stance phase toe out are asymmetries of pelvic rotation, or actual structural deformities in the lower extremity skeleton.
