Oehler has held world records in the long jump, 200-meters, 400-meters. He was the first disabled athlete to run the 100-meter dash in less than 12 seconds, setting a world record (11.73 sec.) at the 1988 Seoul Paralympics.
Tony Volpentest (USA) ran the 100 meters in 11.69 sec. at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics.
