Presentation Types and Description

There are a host of options for students and postdocs to participate. Please see the descriptions below to decide which options are best for you. We hope to accommodate all entries but if space becomes limiting, final selection will be determined by the Abstract Review Committee. Oral or Poster presenters not initially selected may be offered the alternative format, depending on space.

Graduate Student Competitive Oral or Poster Presentation: Graduate College students may compete in oral or poster presentations. Three categories are available: Bench Science, Clinical Science, and Human Population Studies. Judging of posters and oral presentations will be on Tuesday, April 2nd and Wednesday April 3rd. Public poster viewing will be Thursday, April 4th.

Eligibility:

  1. Research must apply towards a dissertation or thesis in an OUHSC MS or PhD graduate program
  2. Participants must present their work in person
  3. Participants must be currently enrolled at OUHSC

Postdoctoral Fellow Competitive Oral or Non-competitive Poster Presentation: Postdoctoral Fellow oral competition will be held Monday, April 1st. Public poster viewing will be Thursday, April 4th.

  2. Participants must present their work in person
  3. Research must be conducted at OUHSC

Professional Student Competitive Oral or Non-competitive Poster Presentation: Professional students who have completed a research project may participate in a competitive oral session on Monday, April 1st or the non-competitive Poster session on Thursday, April 4th.

  3. Participants must be currently enrolled at OUHSC.

OSSM Student Competitive Poster Presentation: A poster competition for Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) students, judged by OUHSC graduate students, will be held Wednesday, April 3rd. Public poster viewing will be Thursday, April 4th.

Eligibility: Current OSSM Student

Flash Talks (3 min research “elevator pitch” presentation): The Flash Talk competition is a research communication competition that will challenge you to present your thesis or dissertation research in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience. You will need to decide on the most important points of your research, craft an interesting and engaging narrative, then deliver in a clear, concise, and confident manner in three minutes or less using only one static PowerPoint slide as a visual aid. The Flash Talk competitions will be held Monday afternoon, April 1st and Tuesday afternoon, April 2nd (additional sessions may be added as needed, based on the number of submissions). Applicants can choose to participate in the Flash Talk competition on its own, or compete in the Flash Talk competition in addition to competing in either the Oral Presentation or Poster Presentation competitions. Flash Talk applications require a Title and Author list but an abstract is not required. More information, including detailed rules and judging criteria, can be found online on the GREAT 2019 website.

Eligibility: Current OUHSC Students and Postdocs
