OK Deaf-Blind Project’s LifeCourse and Waiver Services Training


Charting the LifeCourse is a framework developed to help individuals with disabilities and families at any age or stage of life think about what they need to know, identify how to find or develop supports, and discover what it takes to live the lives they want to live.  Individuals and families may focus on their current situation and stage of life but may also find it helpful to look ahead to start thinking about what they can do or learn what will help build an inclusive productive life in the future. 

Waiver Services is a Medicaid long-term supports program for people with I disabilities in Oklahoma.  This service positively impacts individuals and families.by providing an array of support.  The presentation will include an overview of the service, explain how to sign up and how to use the services to meet individual needs.  

Objective:  Participants will leave the training with tools to use throughout their child’s life at home, with schools and in medical settings.

How Charting the Life Tools are helping families and educators in Oklahoma: 

  • Developing effective educational plans using strategies to empower teams to solve problems
  • Advocating to secure appropriate services for children and adolescence with disabilities
  • Using Charting The LifeCourse tools to overcome challenges
  • Making plans using Waiver Services

A little about the speakers: 

Heather Pike is the Associate Director for the Oklahoma Family Network (OFN), Family to Family Health Information Center and Parent to Parent organization, where she has worked for over 20 years.  Her position at OFN provides her the opportunity to support and connect with remarkable families and organizations across the state and country.  She and her husband live in Edmond, OK with their adult son who has special health care needs and disabilities.

Wanda Felty is the Assistant Director for the Center for Learning and Leadership, Oklahoma’s federally recognized University Center of Excellency in Developmental Disabilities and a Core Faculty Mentor for the Oklahoma Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program. Wanda has been an advocate and supporter of people with disabilities, for more than 30 years ago. She and her husband live in rural Cleveland County with their daughter who has multiple disabilities and complex medical conditions.
