Multiple Daily Injections

This course covers everything you need to know to begin multiple daily injection insulin therapy.  This therapy includes taking, on average, 4 shots a day, 1 shot of short-acting insulin to cover each meal and 1 shot every 24 hours to cover basal insulin needs.  The specific topics include the following.

  • Basal Insulin: Lantus or Levemir
  • Short-Acting Insulin: Novolog or Humalog
  • Insulin Pens
  • Insulin to Carbohydrate Ratios
  • Calculating Your Insulin Dose
  • Correction Doses of Insulin
  • Review of Carbohydrate Counting
  • Logging Blood Sugar, Carbohydrates, Insulin
  • Review of Insulin Storage and Use
