Our aging population brings Alzheimer's disease (AD) to the forefront of medical practice for current and future health professionals. Once considered a rare disorder, AD is now seen as a major public health problem that has a severe impact on millions of older Americans and their families. Oklahoma alone had approximately 74,000 people over 65 with AD in 2010 and anticipate that number to rise to 96,000 by 2025. In addition, unpaid caregivers in our state provided nearly 205,843 hours of care in 2010. . This activity will give you a better understanding of Alzheimer's disease, current research, and ideas to help family and other unpaid caregivers.
