Active Observation
OBJECTIVES
- Understand the principles of interdisciplinary teams
- Describe the roles various team members play in the care of seniors
ACTIVITIES
The expected outcome for this activity is that AGE participants will know more about application of principles of interdisciplinary geriatrics/gerontology in order to educate others in this regard. You will be better informed about the operation of interdisciplinary teams and able to adapt these concepts to your own institution.
The on-site training will consist of an active observation at a facility where interdisciplinary care is being carried out for and with elders. Choose a facility other than the one in which you work. Whenever possible, you will participate actively with the interdisciplinary team in patient assessment and care plan development. A partial list of sites of exemplary care begins on the following page. You may choose from this list or seek another site of interest to you. If you wish to observe at a site that is not listed, contact your program mentor or Jeanene Lindsey at jeanene-lindsey@ouhsc.edu.
A list of questions appropriate for a variety of sites is included on the "Study Questions" page. Choose the set of questions that most closely matches the type of site you visit.
Read "Team Members Overview" on next page or Download HERE
Write a two page paper describing your observation experience which should include:
- A brief description of the site visited
- Answers to prepared questions (and your own)
- The roles of different staff members
- What type of care you observed.
- Your impression of the experience
- How this experience might affect your work site
Submit the paper to your program mentor.
