September is Deaf Awareness Month, a time to celebrate Deaf culture, history, language, and the contributions of Deaf people around the world. International Week of Deaf People takes place September 21–27, 2026, with this year’s theme, “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights,” and a focus on education, sign language, Deaf culture, and representation. September 23 is International Day of Sign Languages, recognizing the importance of sign languages and communication access for Deaf people. Take time this month to learn more about Deaf culture, sign language, and the experiences of Deaf people in our communities.
