SAFE TRAVEL -ext, broll students walking

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)
College students often attend school in a town other than the one in which they grew up.

INT. OLD RESIDENCE HALL Female dorm room. Cut scene of bag packing.

CHRISTIANA (V.O.) (CONT'D)
Increasingly, they move to other cities, towns or states. Holiday travel, spring break travel, and traveling home for summer vacation...

INT. student union Students are on laptops, chatting.

...can place a distracted and vulnerable young adult in a risky situation. Safe travel is about protecting your possessions, and your self.

STOCK IMAGES AIRPORT FOOTAGE

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)
We're all familiar with the Homeland Security Warning colors - and keep an eye on our baggage when we're at the airport. But did you know that our trusting nature is exactly what con artists depend upon when you're in the unsecured areas of the airport?

INT. OFFICE ON CAMERA - ADD TITLE 'RODNIE WILLIAMS, Certified protection professional, FOUNDER 360 STAY SAFE

RODNIE WILLIAMS
Many people have their laptops stolen or purses or backpacks, when they're going through security checkpoints and the typical scam that will occur in situations like this is that right when you placed your bags on the conveyor belt and you're ready to walk through the metal detector, someone will cut in line in front of you and that person who cuts in line in front of you, actually has a bunch of metal in their pockets, which of course sets off the alarms.

INSERT A SHOT OF LUGGAGE X-RAY ADD CG 'unsecure areas are less safe'

RODNIE WILLIAMS (V.O.)
At the same time, your bags have already moved through the x-ray machine or are now on the other side, where this person's partner will pickup a laptop

ADD CG 'watch your valuables'

or pickup your belongings, a purse or what have you and make off with it, before you actually get through the checkpoint.

ON CAMERA - RODNIE WILLIAMS
Somebody tries to cut in front of you, don't let them do that. If in fact, they succeed in doing so, make sure that you draw a lot of attention to the fact that somebody's trying to take your bag or that you want somebody to watch your bag, until you can actually get through the security checkpoint.

STOCK AIRPORT escalator FOOTAGE ADD CG: 'grab belongings before shoes'

RODNIE WILLIAMS (V.O.)
We always encourage people grab your belongings, get them close to you, get somewhere, where you can put on your shoes and pay attention to what's going on, so somebody can't pickup your bag, either on purpose or inadvertently.

TAXI CAB LINE stock FOOTAGE

ADD CG: 'take authorized cabs only'

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)
When you take a cab or shuttle from the airport, don't 'freelance' it and take someone who approaches you outside. Take a cab from the taxi cab line. People may take advantage of you if they know you're new to the area.

ADD CG: 'use CAUTION IN CONVERSATIONS'

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)(CONT'D)
If a cabbie asks 'is this your first time to New York?' you should feel free to say 'no'.

Stock Transit BUS ADD CG: 'sit near bus driver'

CHRISTIANA (CONT'D)
And if you take the bus, sit up front near the bus driver.

INTERIOR OF HOTEL – NIGHT ANGLE ON THE HOTEL LOBBY. The traveling student is in line at the check in
desk. The hotel clerk and traveling student ad lib. HOTEL MAN #1 steps up to the counter shortly afterwards and waits in line.

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)
If you're traveling alone, and are assigned a room on the first floor, ask for a new room assignment. Although not an easy task, breaking in to a first floor room through the windows is possible.

HOTEL CLERK
All right, and I have you in Room 125.

ANGLE ON THE TRAVELING STUDENT'S DISMAYED FACE ADD CG: 'keep room assignments private (silent)'

TRAVELING STUDENT
Is it okay if I get a room on the second floor? And can you write it down?

ANGLE ON CLERK ASSIGNING ROOM

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)
If the hotel staff mentions your room number, or hints that you're traveling alone, ask for a new room number. ANGLE ON THE FRONT DESK.

TRAVELING STUDENT
May I have room that is not on the first floor? And if you could write it down rather than say it, that would be great.

ANGLE ON THE TRAVELING STUDENT. ADD TEXT: 'REQUEST DUPLICATE KEYS' TRAVELING STUDENT (CONT'D)
And I'd like a spare key for my friend.

ANGLE ON STUDENT waiting for ELEVATOR

ANGLE ON ELEVATOR DOOR OPENING ON MAN IN ELEVATOR.

ADD CG: 'use caution in elevators' (Shows questionable character in Elevator)

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)
When you get on an elevator, if you are nervous for any reason, trust your instincts and don't reveal your room assignment location.

TRAVELING STUDENT
(nervously) You go ahead, I forgot something.

ANGLE ON A SPRINKLERADD CG: 'check for fire sprinklers'

CHRISTIANA (V.O.)
Every hotel should have sprinklers - so look for them.

ANGLE ON THE ESCAPE ROUTE SIGN

ADD CG: 'know your escape route'

CHRISTIANA (V.O.) (CONT'D)
And count the doors from your room to the nearest exit. If there is a fire, you may be crawling on the floor to get out, and will need to know how far to crawl to the nearest exit. Remembering 'five to the right' or 'two to the left' could save your life.

ANGLE ON MAN THROUGH THE PEEP HOLE_

ADD CG: 'don't open door for unexpected visitors'

CHRISTIANA (V.O.) (CONT'D)
Obviously you should not open your hotel room door for anyone unless you asked them to come to your room. If they say 'room service' and you didn't ask for room service, then do not open the door.

A WORKOUT ROOM - one man is working out

CHRISTIANA (V.O.) (CONT'D)
Often the hotel workout room is on a lower level, away from traffic. If this is the case, use the workout room during busy times. Remember that there is safety in numbers.

ANGLE ON CHRISTIANA walking up stairs

CHRISTIANA (CONT'D)
One last tip, hotels and motels have safes - either behind the reception desk, or in the room.

ADD CG: 'use hotels safes for small valuables'
Use the safe for anything you want to leave in the room, but would have a hard time replacing such as a passport, jewelry, or small electronics. If you follow these safe travel tips, and remember to trust your instincts and be aware of your surroundings, you can be one of the majority of college students who travel and arrive at their destination safely.
