On a weekday afternoon, students from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine pack into a room where friendly patients wait on adjustable beds beside modern ultrasound systems. These first-year medical students are getting their introduction to the Interprofessional Sonography (IPS) Laboratory, which opened in 2024 at the University of Oklahoma College of Allied Health.

Min Li, Ph.D., George Lynn Cross Research Professor of Medicine, Surgery and Cell Biology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and Associate Director for Global Oncology at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, has been named president of the International Association of Pancreatology (IAP).

Those opportunities and challenges took center stage at the first AI Symposium on the OU Health Campus, which brought together leaders from the university and clinical enterprise to explore how AI can shape the future of healthcare.

The University of Oklahoma welcomed Siddhartha Mukherjee to campus for the Presidential Speakers Series dinner on the evening of Sept. 9 at the Oklahoma Memorial Union. Mukherjee — an oncologist, entrepreneur and Pulitzer Prize-winning author — delivered a talk titled “Research and the Future of Medicine.” His visit comes at a pivotal time for OU, as the university accelerates its research ambitions and builds on the growing strength of its academic health system to advance discovery and improve health. 

New research from the University of Oklahoma identifies a protein in liver cells that appears to help drive the development of liver cancer associated with obesity-related fatty liver disease. The finding, published in Hepatology, points to the protein as a potential new therapeutic target for liver cancer.
