Course Requirements

For the Class of 2024:

-Community Health I (CH I) Elective: 45 clinical hours, 12 education hours, 8 community involvement hours, and a reflective essay

-Community Health II (CH II) Elective: CH I requirements PLUS an additional 20 clinical hours

    • Each student will be given the opportunity to log up to 20 Universal Hours. In the midst of COVID-19, clinical, health education initiative, and community involvement opportunities have been reduced significantly. In order to accommodate for this, students are allowed to complete OUCHA-approved clinical, education, or community hours, log them as such in the OUCHA student portal, BUT account for them in the OUCHA hour category of the students choosing. Universal Hours are NOT an additional requirement but are an additional hour category/type, which offer additional flexibility to students during the ongoing pandemic.
    • Clinic, health education, and community involvement hours that exceed course requirements (65 clinical, 12 education, 8 community) can be retroactively used for Universal Hours to satisfy the remaining hour requirements. In order to use hours from the past that exceeded one (or more) of the CH I hour requirements as Universal Hours, the service opportunity must have been logged in the OUCHA student portal according to guidelines listed above (i.e. within 60 days of clinical hours being earned, within 6 months of community or education hours being earned).
    • To be eligible to enroll in Community Health I, students must have completed all health education and community involvement hours and at least 40 of the required 45 required clinical hours for their initial enrollment during 4th year. All 45 of the required clinical hours must be completed by the end of the Fall semester of the fourth year to be eligible for the elective.
    • To be eligible to enroll in Community Health II, students must have completed all health education and community involvement hours and at least 55 of the required 65 required clinical hours for their initial enrollment during 4th year. All 65 of the required clinical hours must be completed by the end of the Fall semester of the fourth year to be eligible for the elective.
